What to know about raising your first cat

Let’s face it: cats are irresistible, aren’t they? Once they start purring and rubbing on you, you’re guaranteed to forget all your problems instantly. In fact, many animal experts encourage you to get a kitten in your home in case you’re feeling lowly and depressed.

Before making the decision to buy a kitten, here are a few points to help you determine whether it’s the right choice to make.

  • Naturally, cats are very independent creatures. That doesn’t mean you should leave them alone for long periods of time. If cats are not tended to, they can wander outdoors never to return, or can have a bored and destructive nature.
  • You might not know it, but your allergies could be triggered by having a cat in the house. In fact, cats can give you asthma triggered by cat hairs.
  • Nevertheless, having a cat can be an amazing experience as cats are great companions to have in the home. They can bring a ton of entertainment and amusement.

 How to Raise Kittens

One of the amazing things about cats is that they are self-sufficient animals who like to explore the world around them. However, it’s better to give them the attention they need when they are kittens. You’ll need to groom, feed them, and give them plenty of love before they venture out. While kittens are messy, they are less of a burden compared to dogs who can make your home a nightmare! Once you train your kitten to poo and pee, they’ll most likely adhere to their ‘designated spots.’ Cats are repulsed by their own excrement so you don’t have to worry about them making a mess in the house.

One major issue you’ve got to be wary of is your cat shedding hair! Most cats will shed hair, with other breeds shedding much more than is expected. If you happen to have a kitten of this breed, then be prepared to hoover your home much more than is expected. Nevertheless, once you get a kitten, be prepared to deal with urine, saliva, and cat dander that will no doubt cause some allergic reactions. It’s best to be diligent when cleaning after your kitten!
