If you own kitchen appliances, which most of us do, then you know how frustrating it can be when they seem to be going downhill. Larger appliances are not a cheap investment, especially when you want a product that works well and lasts a long time. In fact, some people even have to take out loans to get a new refrigerator or stove nowadays. Plus, some are so high-tech that they run off of our internet connections. There are plenty to choose from when you are in the market for a new kitchen appliance, but many of them simply are not that cheap for a large majority of shoppers.

One mother thought she was going to have to dig deep to come up with the money to replace her old microwave. Her current one seemed to be on its last legs, and she was close to taking the plunge to buy a brand new one. Luckily, she realized the mistake she was about to make- a hilarious one at that. Reading it will probably make you feel better about any silly mistake you’ve made in the past!

The mother in question noticed how the buttons on her machine seemed to be wearing away. As it got worse and worse, she thought that it was simply some normal wear and tear. However, the buttons finally “gave up” and stopped working altogether. She was ready to start shopping for a new microwave when she noticed her mistake. What was it? The woman had never realized that there was a piece of protective plastic over the buttons and had been using it for five years with that plastic still on.

Many new appliances come with a plastic coating over the buttons to keep them from being damaged in transit. A few smartphone models also come with a protective covering. When the appliance is still brand new, the plastic will be extremely clear and clean. Some people even like to keep it on as long as they can to keep the buttons as damage-free as possible.

The woman was quick to share her hilarious mistake on Facebook, uploading a picture of the microwave and the old plastic she had been using. She stated that she had been thinking that the buttons were wearing for years. Instead, the buttons looked old because she never took the plastic off when she installed it five years ago.

On the plus side, she said, the microwave looked brand new once she pulled off the plastic. Luckily, it simply peeled right off. She was then thrilled to have buttons that were in perfect condition, especially after five years!

The picture ended up with over 1,500 reactions within just a few hours. Metro, a news station, reported that many people even came forward to talk about similar problems. A couple of them even wrote that they went to check their microwaves after reading the Facebook post only to find out that they had left the protective plastic on themselves.

Another commenter realized that she had left the plastic on her microwave for more than three years before realizing her mistake. She had even started to get mad at her kids because the area was so dirty-looking even after cleaning it. She also thought the start button was starting to melt. Nope, just protective plastic!

It even appears to be such a common mistake that customers try to bring back items with that protective plastic still in place, according to one shopkeeper. Obviously, many homeowners have believed the same thing! Now, because of one Facebook post, we all know the truth.
